Pain Management

Pain management is a very important aspect of veterinary care. Your pet cannot speak and wants nothing more than to appease you, which means they do not always let us know that they are experiencing pain or discomfort. However, we know that pets experience pain, even though they may not express it the same as we do. Pets that receive pain medication recover from surgery more quickly, and have fewer complications. When pain medicine is given to pets that experience pain from chronic conditions such as arthritis, they will interact more, act younger, eat better, and seem happier. Pain management is used for surgery, injuries, and chronic painful conditions.

How do you know if your pet is experiencing pain? This can be difficult with pets, but some potential signs of pain are:

  • Limping
  • Difficult or slow to stand and lie down
  • Hesitant to move around
  • Crying out
  • Panting
  • Flinching

If you see any of these signs, please call us at (480) 595-5731 to schedule an appointment. We can examine your pet and help you to determine if your pet is experiencing pain. Please DO NOT give any pain medications, especially human medications, without asking us first.
